Aberdeen 2-0 Rangers Eur on your way!
June 1st, 2007
Aberdeen sail into the Uefa cup with a blood, sweat and tear drop type of game as it was the final stage of the S.P.L season. Aberdeen were only 3 heart breaking points from big Jimmy’s Euro dream as a win would have secured the place with Aberdeen 4 point ahead of the Jambo’s.
The Dons kicked off with Hearts within just 1 point in the race for European qualification however this was to have had to been a mesmerising performance as they faced rivals and 2nd place grabbers Rangers.
Aberdeen kicked off in a pacey set of mind with Rangers players sitting back. The game was a lively one as each supporter was handed a thunder banger and the fans had something to sing about at this special occasion which created a brain busting sound which echoed over the whole city. It was stated by a fan that couldn’t get a ticket that he could hear it back in the Woodside area. So they had a great occasion a packed stadium with 21,000 Uefa Cup thirsty fans and a gut busting noise, all they needed now was a goal, and what a special one it was.
Michael Hart played a cross in from the right wing which was nodded on and the ball fell to winger Jamie Smith who played a clever layoff to Scott Severin, he didn’t think twice about shooting as a 25 yarder thundered past helpless Alan McGregor.
That got Jimmy and the red army all riled up. The news soon spread to Rugby park where Hearts were looking for a win to snatch the third place from Aberdeen’s grasps.
A huge groan came from the jambo’s as Killie fans laughed it up. This also was a tear flooding goal for the Rangers fans and players as Scotland International David Weir went head to head with Aberdeen forward Stevie Lovell but got away with murder as it was Steve and Jamie Langfield with the booking. This just got Lovell more determined as his rocket-belter was denied by the wood work. He got a bit more lucky three minutes later as Darren Mackie skipped past the challenge of Weir before slotting a defence splitting through ball to Steve Lovell who cleverly clipped it past the out stretched arm of Alan McGregor. Papac would have cleared it off the line if it wasn’t for Ian Murray’s clumsiness where he forced it over the line to make it 2-0 within the 1st 33 minutes. A handful of Dons supporters were so jubilant they risked a hefty fine and a ban from the venue as they took a leap onto the pitch to join in the celebrations.
This was a harsh warning to the Gers players as they reacted with a curling shot from Adam which scraped the post.
Adam was a lucky to escape with out a booking where he lunged at Hart while damaging his back. The half time whistle blew and Miller was clearly incensed by the Hart incident as he had to be broking apart from Adam.
Second Half and there was no way back for the Glaswegians however they came close to spoiling the celebrations as Chris Burke’s rifle shot boomed off the cross bar and an out stretched Jamie Langfield arm kept a clean sheet from a drive by Adam.
News came through that Hearts were down 1-0 to Killie but this didn’t mean much as there was no way back for Rangers however it brought a giant roar as the news spread round like falling dominos.
Europe- here we come!!!

Fantastic writing - full of brilliant expressions - I partiularly liked “tear drop type of game” and “the news spread round like falling dominoes”.
You should be a sports writer for a national newspaper.
Hope you write more for the bus stop press!
