Orks and Witches
November 14th, 2006
Once upon a time there was dark place with witches, trolls and scary people called orks that could dig tunnels with their tiny nails and sometimes with their rusty old shovels.
There was a freaky old man in the distance with a big axe in his left hand. Beside him stood his wife who was a witch. They both hated these orks and had a plan in mind to kill them.
The witch snatched her broomstick and flew and cast a spell on them.
“Bata bang! Bata boom!” she yelled.
The orks turned into frogs and the witch flew back home and told her husband what she had just done.
The witch and the old man celebrated for nights and days until a huge dragon flew over their house. The witch heard the flapping of the dragon’s wings.
“What was that?” shouted the witch. “Let’s go and see.”
The witch crept along but the dragon spotted her and breathed fire all over her. She shrivelled up and melted away.
The old man fell onto his knees and started to cry. He was never horrible again and made sure the frogs were safe.

What a great story - full of expression. Well done Rikki - you are the first person from Kittybrewster to write a blog for the Reading Bus and I know you did a lot of it in your own time. Hope lots more blogs follow on from Kittybrewster.

A very good story. It has all the things you expect in a fairytale with a good ending where a bad person learns a lesson.

Rikki, this is a fantastic story - I’m really impressed. You’ve got some great description in there, like the orks digging with their “tiny nails,” the “rusty old shovels” and the “freaky old man.” I also like how you’ve used words like “snatched” and “shrivelled.” I wish I could use my pink pen here to highlight the great words you’ve chosen! Well done. :o)
