The Wicked Witch

November 27th, 2006

Imagine one night you were fast asleep in bed. A wicked witch cast a spell over you. When you wake up you can’t read anything - not a word.

We asked Primary 6 at St Machar Primary for their responses - here are some of them!

“I went to get my breakfast - the milk was sour because I couldn’t read the date.” - Shaunee

“I felt strange and my friends felt sorry for me.” - Jenny

“When I woke up I did not want to go to school because I would not be able to write in my book. I felt sad.” - Pouwel

“When I woke up I was on the floor. I looked at the clock and I said, “That’s strange.” I went to school and my friend said “You’re thick”. I failed my tests. It really changed my life.

“I picked up my phone and tried to phone my Mum but I couldn’t read the names.” - Nico

“I did not want to go to school because everyone would make fun of me.” - Adam

“When I woke up I was in my bed. I felt lonely because I could not read. My friends felt sad for me and they tried to help me to read.” - Sara

We hope lots of people will add their own responses - thanks Primary 6 at St Machar for starting this blog.

Your responses do make it sound a very sad thing to lose the ability to read.

If I couldn’t read I couldn’t use my computer to read and write messages. I couldn’t discover new recipes for yummy dishes.

Though I think I’d miss reading poems and stories most of all.

I think it’d be a nightmare, not being able to read! I’d be really unhappy. I’d miss my books, newspapers and magazines but I’d probably miss e-mailing the most. I like to e-mail my friends and family to keep in touch and to send jokes and funny stories.
I’d lose my job as well if I couldn’t read… and then I wouldn’t be able to pay the bills!

I can’t even begin to think how I would feel if I couldn’t read! For a start, I certrainly wouln’t have nbeen able to enjoy what you wrote, or to write my thoughts down (Would you agree that if we can’t read, we can’t write either?) It’s good to see that you’re all thinking about such big issues. Well done!
